Preview and Referencing is a powerful feature in DocXter that allows users to trace and verify information sources directly within the chat interface.
This system provides transparency and accountability by letting you see exactly where each piece of information comes from in the source documents.
How Does It Work? #
DocXter automatically processes your uploaded documents by:
- Extracting all information from the files
- Converting and combining the content into a PDF format for standardized reading
- Creating a unified reference system for easy navigation
Reference Numbers in Chat #
When you interact with DocXter:
- After asking a question or entering a prompt, you’ll receive responses with reference numbers
- These numbers appear after relevant paragraphs
- For single documents, the numbers represent the specific page number in the PDF where the information can be found
Viewing Source Content #
To verify the information:
- Click on any reference number in the chat
- A preview window will automatically open on the left side of the chat
- The relevant text will be highlighted, making it easy to locate the exact source of information
Collections: Reference Format #
When working with collections (multiple documents):
- References use a point system (e.g., 1.2)
- The first number (1) indicates the file number in the collection
- The second number (2) represents the page number within that specific file
- This dual-numbering system helps track information across multiple documents while maintaining precise source references
Benefits #
- Instant verification of information sources
- Easy navigation through multiple documents
- Transparent and accurate reference tracking
- Enhanced user confidence in information accuracy
- Efficient document management and information retrieval
This reference system ensures that users can always trace back to the source of information, making DocXter an invaluable tool for research, documentation, and information management.
